1st Workshop on Challenges and Opportunities in Digital Transformation (CODiT 2025)

in conjunction with
24nd International Conference on Perspectives in Business Informatics Research, BIR 2025

Workshop Description

The growing digitalisation of economies indicates the increasing recognition of digital transformation as a pivotal driver of innovation and sustained competitiveness. Powered by emerging technologies, including AI, cloud computing, blockchain, big data analytics, and IoT, digital transformation is reshaping how organisations operate, deliver services, and engage with customers. Thus, organisations in the private and public sectors have embarked on their digital transformation journey to leverage the various opportunities these technologies offer. However, embracing digital transformation has been anything but straightforward. Among other things, legacy systems, the intricate complexities of integrating new technologies, and employee resistance to change have been identified as barriers to successful digital transformation. Furthermore, significant skill gaps and difficulties in attracting and retaining the necessary talent were found to hinder the effective execution of digital transformation strategies. As a result, scholarly interest in digital transformation has grown substantially, covering topics from specific technological deployments to broader questions of strategy and organisational change. While the extant literature has undoubtedly broadened our understanding of certain facets of digital transformation, a holistic and comprehensive picture of its true nature and far-reaching implications remains elusive.

The CODiT workshop provides a platform where researchers, practitioners, and industry experts can converge to discuss the latest trends, explore emerging opportunities, and address the multifaceted challenges and opportunities in digital transformation. We welcome contributions that present empirical findings, theoretical developments, methodological innovations, and insightful case studies that further our understanding and practice in digital transformation. The workshop's focus gravitates towards the following themes: digital transformation strategies, emerging technology adoption, organisational change and culture, data governance and risk management, data-driven decision-making, and sector-specific applications of digital transformation across public and private sector organisations in various industries. Moreover, CODiT facilitates discussions between academia and industry, encouraging the development of actionable frameworks and solutions that effectively bridge the gap between research and practical application in real-world settings.
